Second Grade students explore the Wonders of Wind - Watch the Videos!
What properties of a
sail affects how well it catches the wind?
Each student used the Engineering Design Process to
design a sail by carefully selecting materials based on
their properties. The students learned that a
problem can be solved in many different ways, the
properties of a material make it a good or poor choice
for certain uses, and the wind can be harnessed to do
work.

Got STEM?
The two fastest-growing
occupations in the U.S. economy, according to

"Engineering
is a
great
profession.
There is
the
satisfaction
of
watching
a
figment
of the
imagination
emerge
through
the aid
of
science
to a
plan on
paper.
Then it
moves to
realization
in stone
or metal
or
energy.
Then it
brings
homes to
men or
women.
Then it
elevates
the
standard
of
living
and adds
to the
comforts
of life.
This is
the
engineer's
high
privilege."
